The main feature of this version is that the screen will AUTOMATICALLY blank after a certain amount of time if the computer is idle. When you install BLACKOUT, you will be given a choice of a long (about 6 min.) delay or a short one (about 30 sec.). BLACKOUT will stay in memory no matter what application is running, eliminating the need to call BLACKOUT again. However, calling BLACKOUTagain will simply "un-install" itself. To restore the screen after it has blanked, move the mouse or hit any key on the keyboard. Note: Since BLACKOUT requires GEOS system RAM space to be active at all times, the System Error message routine will be modified (killed) by installing BLACKOUT. Instead of displaying the error location, it will just take you back to BASIC. Unfortunately, "un-installing" BLACKOUT will not "re-install" the System Error. To do this, you will need to reboot. This can be a blessing in some cases, though. If your system crashes while important files are in your REU, instead of locking up the system, it sends you to a place where you can reboot. WARNING: BLACKOUT has been tested with GEOS versions 1.2, 1.3, and 2.0, and has worked perfectly. However, it has not been tested with all possible applications, and the author makes no guarantees that BLACKOUT will perform perfectly with everything (although he has no idea why anything would mess it up).
